All of these portraits were taken on July 21, 2012 at a surf contest in Ocean Park, Santa Monica, California. A black cloth was set up as a background only steps from the ocean. Lighting was provided by the sun bouncing on the sand. The project is made to communicate the intimate ocean connection shared by participants and spectators.
